How to Dress as a Practical Nurse

Thursday, March 1, 2012

Every profession has certain guidelines and limitations about what is considered appropriate work attire. While business professionals may need to follow a more corporate style, some tech companies may adopt a more relaxed and casual dress code. The nursing profession possesses a unique style of dress that allows nurses to express themselves personally while still following particular regulations.

No matter what the job may be, appearing professional and put together can demonstrate to coworkers, clients or patients that the person should be taken seriously. Although the particular color, print or style of nurse's scrubs is at their discretion, there are certain guidelines that all practical nurses should follow when getting ready for work.

Because of the physical demands of a nurse's job, comfort takes precedence over appearance. Still, nurses have to make sure that what they're wearing is appropriate for the workplace. A low-cut V-neck top t, stained or tight-fitting scrubs and torn can make a nurse appear unprofessional. Part of a nurse's job is to instill a sense of comfort in patients and allow them to feel confident that they are receiving the best care. By looking the part, nurses can rest assured that their patients feel this way.

Practical nursing students can prepare to enter the workforce by dressing appropriately during their practicum in the Practical Nursing program at Vancouver Career College. For more information, fill out the form on the right.
