Learn More with iPads

Returning to school just got a little more exciting. New students at Vancouver Career College are adopting iPad technology in the classrooms this year. Each day the students immerse themselves in their studies and use the iPad technology to kick start their careers. With iPad expertise at their fingertips, Vancouver Career College graduates will be in high demand with organizations looking to improve their bottom line.

With the iPad, students will utilize eTextbooks, accessing them wherever they are with just a tap of the finger. The iPad can highlight, flag, add notes and comments, search online for further research, and documents can be shared with peers. This creates new ways of reading and utilizing information, all while reducing paper and improving efficiencies. Students can also use apps such as smartNote, GoogleReader and i-Prompt to become stellar presenters.

Students of Vancouver Career College can look forward to gaining a solid footing in their chosen field with the added excitement that iPads bring to school and their new career.

Back to School Includes a Visit to the App Store

With hundreds of applications to install on the iPad, we’ve listed a handful of apps to help you get the most out of your iPad while attending Vancouver Career College.

  • Dragon Dictation quickly and easily converts speech into editable text that can be copied or sent via e-mail.

  • SmartNote allows you to record ideas or instructions for later use, insert images, browser views, and tons of widgets in a personalized notebook.

  • i-Prompt is a teleprompting app that’s great for presentations as an auto cue - changing the speed of text as it rolls through to suit your presentation skills.

  • Investigate the use of DropBox. One of the challenges of using the iPad in a classroom is getting work onto or off the devices without relying on iTunes. A DropBox account will automatically sync files wirelessly to any computer.

iPad Applications in the Healthcare Industry

It makes sense that the healthcare field has adopted iPads to improve patient care and communications. After all, technology is saving lives every day. For graduates of the healthcare programs at Vancouver Career College, using iPads for day-to-day learning and sharing is all part of the curriculum and giving graduates a healthy advantage in the workforce.

So how are iPads getting used in the healthcare field? One of the most significant shifts is the use of electronic medical records and personal health records. iPads reduce paperwork and facilitate instant sharing of patient information. Explaining and learning new procedures is made easier with the iPad’s graphic display and presentation style.

Vancouver Career College students are using iPads in the classroom and using the technology first-hand will help them hit the ground running in their new careers. Apply now and become part of the next generation of healthcare professionals at Vancouver Career College.

Better Education Starts with a Brown Bag Lunch

For many of us, lunch is a time to catch up between classes or sneak in some extra study time. But if you take a few moments to plan your lunch, you’ll save money and often have a more healthful meal.

Some good places to start when planning lunches are stews, soups, sandwiches, and salads. Tortilla or rice paper wraps using leftover chicken, salmon or grilled vegetables are also nutritious, easy lunch options. Don’t forget to include a mix of fresh fruits and vegetables and something to satisfy your sweet or salty tooth - pretzels, yogurt, nuts, granola bars, or popcorn.

Boost Your Immune System

For many, the start of a new school year means starting new routines and revamping exercise and healthy eating habits. These new habits won’t just make you feel better, they’ll also boost your immune system, helping you to ward off colds and flu, and leaving more time to focus on your studies!

Eat a variety of fruits and vegetables as they supply antioxidants and vitamins that are powerful immune boosters. Maintaining a regular exercise program reduces your stress and improves your ability to stave off colds and the flu. It also goes without saying that skipping late night partying in favour of a good night sleep will keep you healthy.

The less you tax your body, the less susceptible you are to viruses. Finally, no matter how strong your immune system, washing your hands and getting a flu shot will help keep you healthy.

What are your tips and tricks for keeping healthy? Share them with us on Facebook and Twitter!
