Kelowna Campus Opens Doors to Fire Evacuees

Kelowna, BC -- Monday no ordinary day at the Kelowna Campus of Vancouver Career College. Along with their regular class schedules, staff and students transformed the college into a drop-in center for people affected by the West Side forest fire, offering shelter, restrooms, telephone access and internet services to evacuated residents and stranded travellers.

"We just made our services available for anyone who needed a place to go," said Campus Director Dino Cabalfin. "The community really came together here and the staff and students were all for volunteering our facilities."

In addition, the school serves as a drop off point for Kelowna area residents to donate food and other supplies for fire relief efforts. Students and campus staff will offer assistance to dispersed locals as long as it's needed.

"We are still open for people in need," adds Cabalfin, "but I hope the worst part has passed for everyone."
