Charity campaigns in full swing across the province
Vancouver, BC - November 23, 2009 - With close to a million Canadians turning to food banks this year, charities across the country are having a hard time keeping up with the demand. Holiday initiatives like those being held at Vancouver Career College campuses throughout BC are aimed at helping out those who are less fortunate.
"In keeping with the community spirit of our institution, each campus is holding their own fundraiser for a charity of their choice," says Larry Heinzlmeir, VP of Marketing for Vancouver Career College. "In tough economic times like these, we need to rally around each other and lend any support we can."
Staff and students in Coquitlam and Kelowna are holding food drives throughout the month of December, aiming to beat the number of donations made last year. Kelowna will also be collecting blankets and jackets for the homeless, and will sponsor two local families through local homeless and women's shelters.
Other campuses in Surrey and Burnaby will be collecting toys and other children's items for donation to the Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau. The Christmas Bureau has been distributing toys and food vouchers to low income families in the Lower Mainland since 1930.
Those interested in donating to any of the Vancouver Career College initiatives can do so by contacting the campus nearest them.
