Public need for legal professionals means job openings for paralegals
Vancouver, BC - May 14, 2010 - It seems that more than ever, people are looking for job security. At the same time, we wonder if there will be a job for us in our chosen field when we finish school.
There are certain professions that will always be needed and legal careers fall into that category. According to the American Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of paralegals is projected to grow 28% between 2008 and 2018 in North America which is above average for most other occupations. Paralegals are hired to reduce costs and increase availability of legal services as well as assist with duties that were once performed primarily by lawyers.
The growth of prepaid legal services (companies that provide on-call legal help) is also contributing to the demand for paralegals, and the industry is expected to grow as people require more legal assistance in areas such as intellectual property, healthcare and environmental law.
Private law practices will most likely continue to employ the largest number of paralegals, but organizations needing and employing paralegals are also expanding. Corporate legal departments, insurance companies, real estate firms and banks also employ paralegals in increasing numbers.
During a time when jobs and employment may have seemed uncertain, legal careers have and will continue to become available. As long as there are laws and a need for assistance, the job outlook and jobs available for paralegals will continue to increase.
