Vancouver Career College launches Montessori Certificate in Burnaby in January 2010
Burnaby, BC - November 6, 2009 - Early Childhood Educators interested in expanding their professional credentials now have an opportunity with the Montessori Teaching certificate program at Vancouver Career College in Burnaby starting in January 2010.
"The Montessori method focuses on providing meaningful experiences for children in a nurturing and multi-age classroom," says Bohdan Bilan, VP of Academics for Vancouver Career College. "Therefore, the role of the teacher is to prepare the environment and assist in the natural development of a caring, competent and responsible child."
Students in the Montessori Teaching certificate program learn to apply the principles and practices founded by Dr. Maria Montessori in the early 20th century. They focus on the major learning areas, such as language arts, math, sensorial development, practical life and cultural knowledge, in order to develop knowledge of purposeful activities for children. In addition, the program also assists students to sharpen their observational skills in order to guide and assist with the child's development.

The 21-week Montessori program is available at Vancouver Career College for those interested in pursuing a career in education.
