The Canadian Payroll Association has recognized a Vancouver Career College student for achieving the highest marks in the organization's Payroll Compliance Practitioner certification. Ved Prakash, an Accounting and Payroll Administrator student at the Burnaby Campus of Vancouver Career College has taken the top honors in the Pacific Region as well as across Canada.
Having worked in the accounting field prior to immigrating to Canada, Ved saw the APA program as a way to enter the profession in North America, including the practice and procedures for payroll administration.
"Payroll was new to me, with many provisions and legal enactments" he says, "but with firm determination I learned them and excelled in the examinations."
This determination did not go unnoticed at the campus. As part of the recent Student Appreciation Day, college officials and staff presented Ved with a plaque in recognition of his achievement.
"From the very first day, I saw his potential," says Vancouver Career College APA instructor Joe Peter. "He was persistent, asking questions and getting clarification. And he was a hard worker."
Along with other recent Payroll Compliance Practitioner program grads, Ved will attend the CPA's annual certification luncheon on April 24 at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown to receive the organization's gold award. In addition, the association has also invited him to attend its annual conference as an honored guest in Victoria in June.
